Frisco Farmers Market find: sauces from Elgin

I haven’t been out to the Frisco Farmers Market since 2008. What a difference two years makes. As I approached the busy market, the air was filled with the strains of “Wagon Wheel” by the Old Crow Medicine Show – not the band performing here today (in fact I missed the name, and if you know it, please tell me), but a gently swaying rendition of this wonderful song sure to put you in the mood for farmers market shopping.

The block was a forest of tents, and one of the most interesting was Manas Spices, where local boy Mike Russell was selling his Papaw’s BBQ Rub and chili and bean spice blends, as well as a few other ‘cue products, among them sauces and rubs from the dueling Hill Country barbecue greats in Elgin: Meyers’ Elgin Smokehouse and Southside Market. (That’s Elgin with a hard “g,” as opposed to the Elgin marbles.) I guarantee this is the only place you’ll find these for sale in North Texas.
